I think they called this a bronze finish, but I would call it brown. The lamp is put together well and is very stable on carpet. I wanted a halogen lamp for reading and the bightness of this unit is perfect. The drawbacks I believe exist with this model is the lack of adjustment for the lamp. More articulation in this area would be an improvement. The location of the switch on the main stem is awkward because where you would normally position this lamp you have to turn around to turn it on and off. I wish there were more to choose from, but given my choices I am happy with this lamp and can live with its design limitations.
